ABOUT

Big Hit Entertainment's seven-member group debuted in 2013 and became the first K-pop act to top the Billboard Hot 100, win a Billboard Music Award, and address the United Nations General Assembly. Their 'LOVE YOURSELF' album era defined a global moment for Korean pop culture, and the group holds the record for the most YouTube views in 24 hours for a K-pop act.

RM

Ilsan, South Korea

Kim Nam-joon taught himself English largely through the American sitcom Friends and became a self-taught rapper before joining Big Hit Entertainment in 2010. He was the first member recruited for what would become BTS, and the only member to join via the company's direct rap audition pipeline. As BTS's leader and primary songwriter, he holds over 100 writing and production credits. His address to the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 — delivered in Korean — was watched by tens of millions and described by diplomats as one of the most effective pieces of youth-focused public diplomacy in recent memory.

Beyond K-pop

Visiting contemporary art museums — he has been photographed at MoMA, the Tate, and the Louvre during tour stops — oil painting, and an extensive reading practice spanning philosophy and contemporary literature.

Jin

Jin

Gwacheon, South Korea

Kim Seok-jin was scouted on the street by a Big Hit talent spotter in 2011 with no prior performance training — he had studied acting, not music or dance. He taught himself the skills required for K-pop while training and debuted as BTS's eldest member. In 2022 he enlisted for mandatory Korean military service, becoming the first BTS member to do so, and was discharged in June 2024 to widespread international media coverage.

Beyond K-pop

Gaming — he streams regularly and is known in Korean gaming communities — cooking elaborate meals, and a wide-ranging gag-style humour he pursues as a genuine craft.

Suga

Daegu, South Korea

Min Yoon-gi began producing music in his early teens, working as an underground rapper and session musician in Daegu before joining Big Hit in 2010. As Agust D, his solo mixtape project, he released three albums between 2016 and 2023 exploring depression, OCD, and the psychological cost of fame with a candour unusual in commercial pop. He completed mandatory military service in 2024.

Beyond K-pop

Music production — he produces constantly outside of group schedules and has collaborated with IU, Halsey, and Psy — basketball, and late-night drives.

J-Hope

J-Hope

Gwangju, South Korea

Jung Ho-seok was an accomplished street dancer — specialising in popping and locking — before joining Big Hit in 2010. He was the first BTS member to release a full solo album, 'Jack in the Box' (2022), which debuted at number 17 on the Billboard 200 and earned him a headlining slot at Lollapalooza — the first Korean solo artist to headline an American festival of that scale. He completed mandatory military service in 2024.

Beyond K-pop

Dance across multiple street and contemporary styles, fashion — he is a Louis Vuitton global ambassador — and studio production work.

Jimin

Busan, South Korea

Park Ji-min graduated from Busan Arts High School's contemporary dance programme before joining Big Hit Entertainment in 2012. His fluid, contemporary dance background gives him movement qualities that professional choreographers consistently single out. His solo debut album 'FACE' (2023) and its lead single 'Like Crazy' made him the first Korean solo artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 — a historic milestone for K-pop.

Beyond K-pop

Contemporary dance (he trains independently outside of group schedules), fashion — he is a Dior ambassador — and spending time with his BTS members.

Daegu, South Korea

Kim Tae-hyung trained at Big Hit for several years before BTS debuted — his trainee period was kept secret even from friends, a common but unusual practice. He has pursued acting alongside music, appearing in the Korean historical drama 'Hwarang' in 2016. His debut solo album 'Layover' (2023) leaned toward jazz and retro-pop influences entirely distinct from BTS's hip-hop roots, demonstrating a creative voice fully his own.

Beyond K-pop

Painting and visual art — he studied fine arts independently — saxophone (which he began learning during the pandemic), and collecting vintage film photography.

Jungkook

Busan, South Korea

Jeon Jung-kook was 13 when he auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment, having turned down offers from multiple larger companies including SM and JYP. He is BTS's maknae and its most commercially versatile solo performer — his 2023 single 'Seven' reached number one in over 100 countries and set Spotify streaming records. He completed mandatory military service in 2024.

Beyond K-pop

Tattooing — he has extensive personal tattoo work and has spoken about the craft as a serious interest — weightlifting, painting, and cooking late-night meals for fellow BTS members.
